Viking Classic Smooth Bent Apple Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked [SOLD OUT]

Description

Viking was a make originally created by Bjarne Nielsen as a sub-brand of his main-line Bjarne pipes. Nielsen himself was one of the towering figures of Danish pipe-making until his passing in 2008, introducing the world to a generation of talented pipe-makers from his home country. While neither Nielsen nor Bjarne are around anymore, the Viking line continues to be produced, offering interesting designs at affordable prices.

This is a pleasant chubby apple from Viking. I suppose one might consider it a somewhat Danish approach to the traditional author shape, with its wide, full bowl and quarter bend. The grain is particularly lovely, with plenty of flame grain around the bowl, which I presume is why this pipe was left with only a light, natural stain. The silver accent at the base of the stem adds a nice, extra touch of class, too.

This pipe is completely unsmoked, and ready to set off on its maiden voyage.
