Sasieni Fantail 41, Patent Era Estate Briar Pipe, Family Era [SOLD OUT]
Out of stock
Description
Along with names like Barling, Charatan, and Dunhill Sasieni holds a special place in the history of English smoking pipes – one near to its very beginnings. So the story goes, Sasieni himself worked for Dunhill during its early days. But eventually he left Dunhill, having his own ideas about how pipes should be made, and founded Sasieni. This was 1919, and Sasieni has been the closest thing to a household name in English pipes ever since.
This Sasieni ‘Fantail’ pipe is quite stunning. As the name implies, what distinguishes this pipe from Sasieni is its unique stem shape, which tapers inwards away from its base and then fans outwards. As if this wasn’t interesting enough, the stummel has some absolutely gorgeous grain, with its natural bird’s-eye briar patterns elevated by the use of a very light, natural blonde stain. Though it is 6 inches in length, the pipe is a mere 32 grams in weight, making it an ideal clencher.
The condition of the pipe is quite remarkable. This mid-century piece from Sasieni’s family era, prior to the sale of the name, has survived all those decades in top shape. There is a touch of back rim darkening, and a very minor abrasion on the edge of the vulcanite stem, but otherwise this Patent Fantail is quite mint – even the logo on the stem has been preserved. A real gem for collectors, or simply for admirers of English classics.
