Savinelli Punto Oro 1011 EX, Sandblasted Straight Billiard Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]
Out of stock
Description
It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously produced high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.
Savinelli’s Punto Oro line has always been one of the make’s highest-grade offerings, with only a small percentage of its output destined to receive this honor. In the case of sandblasted pipes, such as this one, the grade is only applied to those bowls which allow for the most crisp and uniform grain patterns to emerge during their creation. The simple black stain that has been used on this one lends it an air of elegance, while keeping a sheen that highlights the ring grain around its bowl.
Judging by the shape number, this Punto Oro was produced at some point before 1970, after which Savinelli switched to three-digit shape numbers. As one can also see, it has the EX designation occasionally used for Savinelli’s larger pipes. While it is fairly large, it is not overly so, and neither is it especially heavy, weighing around two ounces. It isn’t what I’d call a clencher, but it is still a very easy pipe to smoke.
Though it is over half a century old, the pipe is in remarkable shape. The finish is intact, the rim is not charred, and the vulcanite stem is without tooth marks.
