Ser Jacopo L1, Smooth Squat Bulldog Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]

Ser Jacopo is likely the most famous contemporary example of high-grade, workshop-made Italian pipes. It also belongs to a very special tradition in Italian pipe-making, having been established by Giancarlo Guidi and Bruno Sordini after the two had left another great Italian workshop, Mastro de Paja. Together, Guidi and Sordini created a brand of pipes that reflected their Renaissance sensibilities – even the figurehead of Ser Jacopo happens to be taken from a painting of a nobleman from centuries past – one that would soon become esteemed for creating unique and beautiful tobacco pipes that smoked just as well as they looked.

As evinced by the coral dot (rather than silver J) logo on its stem, beautiful Ser Jacopo was made during its highly-collectible 1983-1997 period, during the time when founder Giancarlo Guidi was at the helm of the workshop. It is a very interesting design too, being a squat bulldog, not unlike Dunhill’s legendary O shape from the early- to mid-20th century. This squat bulldog, however, also has a sterling silver mount, which along with its Italian blonde stain gives it quite a distinguished air. What really sets this pipe apart for me, however, is just how light it is. At just 32 grams, this pipe will clench like a dream, but is also wonderfully comfortable in the hand.

The pipe is in absolutely mint condition. While we have been told that the pipe has previously been smoked, it would be hard to tell by looking at it. Perhaps it was smoked just once or twice. In either case, the previous owner took extremely good care of it, as we all should with the beautiful things in our lives.
