Savinelli De Luxe Milano 111 KS, Sandblasted Straight Billiard Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]

Description
It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously produced high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.
How many Savinelli pipes have you seen with a perspex stem? I’ve seen hundreds of Savinelli pipes, but this is the first I’ve seen with a stem like this. The de Luxe Milano pipes usually had either vulcanite or lucite stems, depending on the era. And yes, before you ask, the stem on this one is indeed original, with an inset branding to prove it (we’ve included a close up photo for reference).
I have to wonder whether this particular Savinelli was part of a line produced to compete with GBD and their perspex stems. If so, that would make this Savinelli fairly old, from somewhere around the beginning of the second half of the 20th century. If so, it’s been preserved magnificently. As is inevitable, the draft-hole of the perspex stem is a little yellowed from use, but it’s still cleaned up pretty nicely. The finish on the bowl is also untarnished, as is the rim. All in all, a very cool, very rare, pipe.
