Eric Klodt Sandblasted Prince Handmade Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]

Eric Klodt is an American artisan pipe-maker, who became immersed in the world of high-grade pipes in 2009. After studying with key figures in the contemporary American artisan movement, such as Rad Davis, Grant Batson, Nate King, and Michael Lindner, Klodt began producing his own high-grade smoking pipes, each inflected with the skills passed down by time spent with his celebrated tutors.

While artisan pipe-makers will often explore new and elaborate shapes, many of them still return to the classics from time to time, giving these shapes their own hand made flair. This particular Klodt is a nice, traditional prince. It is fairly long, at just over 6 inches, with a wide, but compact, bowl at the end, allowing it to remain fairly light in weight. Klodt has sandblasted this one, giving the sides of the bowl a nice crisp feel, with some ring grain as well, but he’s also left the underside smooth and polished. While it’s much easier to see in person, the hue of the underside should give some indication that the stain Klodt has used is a subtle contrast mixture of reds and black. The stem is hand cut ebonite, while the band at the end of the shank is Fordite, a unique material from the mid-20th century comprised of polished layers of paint runoff from factories.

The pipe is in great condition. I don’t see anything to complain about here. Just a beautiful, updated take on a classic.
