PETERSON PIPES
As the oldest continuously operating briar pipe factory in the world, Peterson has a tradition to uphold – a legacy of craftsmanship dating back over 150 years. Whether you are browsing for your very first pipe or are a seasoned collector in search of a rare smoking pipe find, know that every Peterson pipe carries the same preservation of tradition. A Peterson pipe isn’t just a tool for your smoking pleasure – it’s a piece of history you can carry with you in your travels as a companion to accompany you through all that life offers.
SAVINELLI PIPES
The Savinelli story began in 1876 with Achille Savinelli Sr. opening one of the first stores in the world exclusively selling smoking articles. The shop is located in the very center of Milan at via Orefici 2, near the famous Piazza Duomo. Our small shop, still at its original location, soon became a meeting place for passionate smokers to exchange opinions and discuss experiences.
It was there that Achille Sr. began designing pipes. He would then have his pipes made by artisans in the Varese district, just north of Milan. Contemporarily to the opening of the shop in via Orefici, Savinelli Sr.’s brother and sister moved to Genoa to open their own pipe store in Galleria Mazzini. They soon obtained their own faithful clientele and further established the Savinelli name.
MBSD MEERSCHAUM PIPES
Meerschaum pipes are hand-made by skilled craftsmen in stages. First, one person will rough out the shape. Next, a master comes in later to do the detailing (such as the figural pipes). Avoiding the wearing out problems of years earlier, each Meerschaum pipe is sleeved in the shank to receive the smooth nylon tenon which will have the same feel as removing the stem from most briar pipes. Each smoking pipe piece is hand-fit with an acrylic bit and a very laborious process is next. Skilled craft-persons hand carve pieces of wood that are later lined and covered to become a unique case. The material of a Meerschaum pipe won’t burn, so there is no burnout, and the porosity allows for very beautiful coloring over the years.
ARTISAN PIPES
An “Artisan Pipe” are pipes produced by craftsmen and craftswomen on a small scale. One can think of Artisan Pipes as one would of a microbrewery, high-end painter, or custom stone carver. The primary distinguishing factor that separates these types of businesses from their larger production counterparts is the very low volume.
ESTATE PIPES
Estate pipes are simply pipes that have been pre-owned in the past, or new old stock, purchased from another company. Used pipes are also referred to as ‘Estate Pipes’, which is a term often used in the USA. Estate Pipes can be smoked or unsmoked pipes. These pipes are often sold or traded among enthusiasts and may have unique characteristics or history attached to them. Estate pipes may require cleaning and restoration before they can be used again, and they are often sought after by collectors and smokers who appreciate their vintage or historical value.
ROSSI PIPES
Rossi pipes have been around for more than 100 years. In fact, prior to WWII, Rossi pipes was the largest pipe maker in the world. Ferdinando Rossi was one of the pioneers in starting Italian production of briar pipes. He was also a contemporary of Achille Savinelli, whose company nearly a century later, came to buy the Rossi family’s firm. This acquisition gave the Rossi name new life, as Rossi by Savinelli, focusing on affordable, high quality, Italian pipes.
OTHER MEERSCHAUM PIPES
